Artist Statement
the wedding industry has become somewhat of an echo chamber. personally, i believe in the quiet power of a good photograph. I work best with people willing to do a trust fall. My photographs are guided by intuition, and my expertise is in paying attention.True-to-life colors and a tight curation are my priorities when delivering a final product & most importantly, I never walk into a wedding day with my own expectations. it’s your day.

I really value couples who let me be human.
A recent couple, in place of categorizing us as “Vendors”, listed us as “Wedding Day Buddies” on their timeline, and it really warmed my heart. Those are my people. The bride also fed me bred during dinner while I shot.My 30th birthday party had 6 past brides in attendance. I am an introvert, to put it mildly (more like reclusive homebody) and most of my weddings are not local, so there is never any pressure to become the best of friends. But a lot of my clients do become my friends. I believe it’s important for us to feel comfortable talking with each other person to person, instead of Vendor to Client. I like to joke. I like to throw any possible business persona out the window because that isn’t who I am. Am I organized, prepared for mishaps, and an expert in my field? Absolutely. But I can be myself, and still do my job.

You’re talking to Aly, owner and lead photographer.
However, Aly Hansen Photo encompasses a teamwork making the dream work. We are comprised of 4 photographers, and 2 assistants. I believe in excellence when it comes to my craft. Excellence takes teamwork, and I’m so grateful for my team.
Together we ensure your day runs as smoothly as possible. There will never be more than 3 of us present on your wedding day, though.

A lot.
I’m a big believer in the medium being irrelevant. But in the spirit of transparency, I am a film first photographer. This means film leads the way for me; my digital camera following where needed to fill in the gaps film misses. Each medium has its own strength, and I believe in embracing the appropriate medium for each scene.
Sometimes your wedding day story can be told in 10 rolls of film. Sometimes it’s told in 25 rolls of film. There are so many factors that go into how much film ends up being used at your wedding, but it’s front of mind for me and how I prefer to shoot and work.

I’m based in New York City and Richmond, Virginia (splitting my time between the two) but most of my work involves travel, yes, especially along the East Coast and down south like Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia.
